The University of Connecticut Puppet Arts Program is currently seeking another full-time professor position in the School of Fine Arts.
The Puppet Arts Program of the Department of dramatic Arts in the School of Fine Arts at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor of Directing and Performance in the Puppet Arts or a non-tenure track position of Instructor in Residence in the area of Puppet Arts. Duties include, but are not limited to: teaching BFA, MA and MFA students in three classes per semester, serving as an academic advisor for undergraduate and graduate students, and participating in projects and productions as a director/creator and as a production advisor. The professor will work closely with the program head on initiatives important to the continued growth and success of the Puppet Arts Program and the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry. In addition, the candidate will serve on committees and attend all required faculty functions and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications: To be appointed at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in a tenure-track, the successful candidate must possess an MFA or Ph.D. degree in the Puppet Arts or a related field, or evidence that the degree will be conferred by the start of the appointment. We will also consider a non-tenure appointment at the rank of Instructor in Residence, for which the successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with substantial professional experience. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications: A preferred candidate for this position will:
• demonstrate the knowledge and ability to direct scripted theatrical productions;
• have extensive experience with the manipulation of hand puppets, rod puppets, string puppets,
masks and shadow figures;
• have practiced knowledge of improvisation, oral interpretation, voice, dance, biomechanics,
pantomime, clowning, creature personification and movement for the puppeteer;
• have proven success in the creation of devised theatre;
• have the ability to contribute through research, teaching and/or public engagement, to the
diversity and excellence of the Puppet Arts Program of the Department of Dramatic Arts;
• be a member of UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette).

Appointment Terms: This is a full-time, nine-month appointment. Salary is competitive based
upon qualifications. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campuses, with the possibility of work at UConn’s regional campuses.
